Calis
Calis is one of the most popular and beautiful tourist destinations along the Mediterranean coast. It is a perfect area mixed with locals, expats living here all year around and for tourist looking for a relaxing holiday.
Calis beach is an unspoiled 4km stretch of shingle and sand, it is well known for its year round breeze that makes it very comfortable during hot summer months. The breeze also makes it ideal for wind surfing. There is a wind surfing school at one end of the beach. A favourite occupation of tourists in the evenings is just to sit and watch the amazing sunsets. The effect of the sunset over the islands and reflecting in the sea is breathtaking and can also be different from evening to evening, dependent on the heat mist or the movement of the waves.
Calis High Street caters for every need. In the evenings it is closed to traffic. There is also a ferry plying between Calis and Fethiye. Just where the canal enters the sea is a small nature reserve. All along the sea front are hotels, restaurants and bars.
On Sundays there is a large market selling just about everything. The fruit and vegetable stalls are piled high with all the lovely fresh vegetables and fruit which are in season. Other stalls sell clothes, many with designer labels, toys, watches, sunglasses, tools and household goods, to name but some.
As well as being very convenient for Fethiye, Dalaman is only a drive of about 35 minutes and many other places are in easy distance. There are frequent minibus services and also taxis. |
