Turkey has a pretty enviable public transport system, any visitor to the country will note. It means moving to a Turkey property doesn’t necessarily mean that a driving licence is mandatory with which to get around. All three major transport systems within the country – bus, train and internal flights – are very affordable and pretty efficient, we believe here at Oceanwide Properties.
Travelling in Turkey by Bus
Most Turkish cities and major towns have a bus station, referred to as the otogar or terminal (although in many instances these are being moved outwith the main centre of the cities to the outskirts). The Intercity buses themselves are comfortable and the journey often involves a cup of tea enroute. There will also be a toilet and an attendant on board. Between smaller towns and villages the very reliable and regular dolmuses operate. Because of fierce competition between operators the prices tend to be on the low side and therefore work in the tourist’s favour.
Travelling in Turkey by Rail
The country’s official railway is continually being updated with a fast rail network throughout Turkey’s big cities and popular areas on the cards. These include Ankara, Kars, Konya and Sivas. It doesn’t however, hit the Mediterranean coasts, which are really only accessed by bus. There are plenty of sleeper trains, they don’t cost much and are, in fact, around 50 per cent of the cost of a bus on a similar route – due to the fact they often take twice as long.
Travelling in Turkey by Air
There are internal flights to around 30 cities in Turkey. If you can plan your journey in advance then it’s a good idea to book several months beforehand in order to secure less expensive seats and better travelling times. Tickets from all the domestic airlines can easily be booked online.
Property Investment in Turkey
If you’re considering investing in property in Turkey in the coastal areas such as Fethiye, Kalkan and Kas, then a good time to come is obviously outwith the tourist season which is the end of November to the final weeks of March. The traffic will be far quieter then and it’ll prove easier to get around if you don’t have the benefit of a car. It’ll also be far less expensive to fly – both in terms of getting here and with the domestic airlines.
Those looking for a property for sale in Fethiye or any other coastal location should consider contacting us here at Oceanwide Properties Turkey where we would be happy to direct and guide you in your search.
