At a loss for what to cook tonight? Why not try your hand at some Turkish recipes found online? Here’s our top five Turkish food blogs written in English – each containing a wonderful array of delicious Turkish dishes that can be rustled up easily to impress your friends.
We just love this website written by Ozlem Warren, a Turk living in England. Ozlem’s site is a fabulous collection of traditional and modern Turkish recipes aimed at home cooks with a passion for Turkish culture and food. Ozlem is well known in the food and blogging world. Not only has she run courses on Turkish cuisine in Turkey, the UK and US, she is often mentioned in the press and media. Her blog is well worth a bookmark if you’re in the mood for a Turkish supper.
A colleague suggested A Seasonal Cook in Turkey and what a find! A vibrant foodie blog written by a former Brit and English Teacher resident in Turkey for more than 30 years. Claudia’s award winning blog contains a wide range of Turkish recipes and some mouthwatering photos to boot. The site, it’s dishes and commentary is certainly worth checking out on your search for the ideal meal.
Almost Turkish Recipes is a simple blog with some great content. Having tried a few of the recipes at home I can vouch for the tastiness of Burcu’s recipes. Born in Turkey but now living in the States, Burcu lists a great number of dishes from Turkish classics to her own take on Turkish cuisine.
A great source of Turkish recipes written up by Olga Irez, originally from Russia and now a restaurant owner and chef living in Alacati on the Aegean. Her site has a wealth of Turkish recipes all nicely presented with some great photography. Thankfully Olga’s dishes are all easy to find and categorised on the website. Her blog includes basic, quick recipes for the beginner to more complex dishes. Having cooked up her Turkish Carrot Salad with Yogurt over the weekend (it was delicious), this site is certainly one I will return to over the next few weeks.
We couldn’t put together a list of favourite Turkish food blogs without a mention for Turkey’s for Life. Julia and Barry are fellow Fethiye based bloggers and expats that fell in love with Turkey back in 1998. They started their blog back in 2010. Like many of expats that chose to settle in Turkey, something magical made them stay and their site documents their travels and day to day experiences living in Turkey. Their site is a wealth of local information from suggestions on where to eat, drink and visit, to observations on Turkish culture, ex-pat lifestyle and of course a wide range of tasty Turkish recipes. Head over to their recipe section for a good choice of Turkish basics through to their own take on mezes, mains and desserts.
