Turkey’s all about world leaders, celebrities and the wealthy this week. The G20 is taking place in Antalya, Andrey Melichenko paid Fethiye another visit on his mega-yacht and Brad and Angelina have reportedly snapped up a lovely little Turkish property near Izmir costing a mere $2.6 million. Blah! to whoever said that interest in Turkey had slowed down…

What better way to follow yesterdays Melicenko’s post than with another celebrity story starring arguably the most famous couple in the world – Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. ‘Brangelina’ have reportedly brought a $2.6 million Turkish property in Saklikoy in Urla, a beautiful coastal location between Cesme and Izmir. Their new 2500 square meter home lies on 10,000 meters of sea front land in an area famed for it’s wineries and organic farming. With 7 bedrooms over 4 stories, a sports hall and a large private pool, there’s plenty of room for their plethora of kiddies to run riot.
The couple are no strangers to Turkey. Jolie has visited various provinces on a number of occasions in her role as a UN Goodwill Ambassador. According to Anadolu News Agency, the idea of a property purchase here was sparked following an enjoyable family vacation on the Aegean coast last year. Anadolu Agency said that, “the couple loved Urla very much because of the sea, artichokes, fish and everything. This place is just 20 minutes from the airport…they will visit very often”.
According to the Daily Sabah in a interview they had with Oya Paktas, the Turkish representative of their Italian Real Estate company, the couple “did not come here, but browsed photos of the place online. After they liked it, their agent came over to finalise the deal”. Locals, real estate companies and developers are over the moon with their new neighbours. House prices in the region have taken a leap and the media surrounding the sale is boosting interest in Turkish property again. Chairman of Izmir’s Chamber of Real Estate Agents said that the prices of Turkish property in the area began to climb the moment the couple’s name was added to the purchase.
In addition to their Turkey property, the couple have amassed an enviable overseas portfolio over the years. They own the stunning $35 million Chateau Mirval on the French Riviera, a New Orleans mansion that’s now for sale at $6.5 million, a luxury apartment in the legendary Ansonia building in New York City, an ocean front eco-estate just outside Santa Barbara, California, and a hideaway in Cambodia. There is also talk that the stars have been spotted property shopping around London.
So yet another couple fall for the charms of Turkey. Let’s hope this boosts the interest in Turkish property once more and that others follow in their footsteps.
