Christmas Comes to Fethiye
Should you decide to visit Fethiye over the festive season, or make a permanent move, you don’t need to worry about missing out on festivities.
Overall, the present-giving side of Christmas isn’t widely celebrated in Turkey.
But areas like Fethiye, who have a large population of non Turks, have seen an explosion in Christmas events and merchandise.
You may not be able to walk in to any supermarket and get tinsel in October. However, stores such as Migros will have a small selection available throughout December.
But to fully get into the Christmas spirit, you can visit one of the highly anticipated local Christmas fairs.
Unfortunately, the fairs didn’t take place last year so, no doubt, they will be bigger and better than ever before.
When and Where?
The two largest ones in the area (that we are aware of) are in Çalış on Sunday 5th December:

And Hisaronu on Saturday 11th December:

There is so much on offer. You can eat, drink, buy homemade foods, buy homemade crafts, buy Christmas baubles, visit Santa and catch up with friends you may not have seen for a while.
More importantly, both fairs help raise money for local charities.
If you wish to go further afield there is the Christmas Fair in Dalyan although that has already taken place this year.
You can also keep your eye out on social media for smaller local fairs.
The organisers do their utmost to make sure the fairs don’t clash with each other. This gives the sellers the opportunity to display their wares more often and gives us, the purchasers, more chances to buy.
