Fethiye, Bodrum and Marmaris Turkish holiday-makers are struggling to find sea-front ‘affordable’ Turkish property for rent as prices have almost doubled in the Aegean coastal towns, according to the local Real Estate Associations.

Prices have risen above 1,000 TL for houses close to the beach and despite the construction of many new buildings, renters are complaining they cannot find rental homes, particularly near the sea, says Marmaris Real Estate Association President, Hasan Ates.

‘The lack of rental units first became an issue last year, and has reached its pinnacle this year. Finding an affordable 500-600 lira-per-month rental unit has become very difficult. Rental prices have gone up more than we expected. There are homes available for 900-1000 liras, but those are not suitable for our customers’ budgets’, he said.

Ates attributed the short-fall to regions like Fethiye becoming all year round resorts, with seasonal workers who traditionally vacate their homes at the end of Summer staying on, realising the difficulties they may encounter in finding somewhere the following year.

The news comes as rents in Turkey are revealed to be rising by 12.3 per cent year-on-year, and property values by 12.41 per cent year-on-year nationally.
