Those dreaming of a Turkey property in a tranquil, typical setting with winding streets and vine covered houses and without the hustle and bustle of tourists would do well to take a look at what’s on offer in the village of Uzumlu in the eastern Anatolia region. And indeed many British individuals have, with the village fast becoming a very popular location for retired couples.
Sitting just 15 kilometres away from the popular holiday resort of Fethiye, Uzumlu is slightly cooler than its coastal neighbour – thanks to mountain breezes (it sits 500 metres above sea level) making it a more pleasant place to reside in, particularly during the warm summer months.
Uzumlu (translated the name means grape yard or location of the grape) also has a range of amenities for even the most discerning of overseas visitor, such as local shops and a handful of restaurants, bars and cafes where, it has to be said, the local wine is definitely worth a sip or two and, at the same time, you’ll probably be treated to a tune from the Saz (a traditional Turkish stringed instrument).
Here at Oceanwide Properties we specialise in selling property for sale in Fethiye, but also outlying regions such as Uzumlu.
Location-wise, the village nestles in a beautiful pine and wild flower-clad valley with plenty of hills nearby for walks in nature. And for those who’d like the vibe of a larger town every now and again Fethiye really isn’t far since it’s possible to catch a Dolmus bus into the coastal resort every 30 minutes. In this sense, living in Uzumlu never feels isolating in the least. For those who are interested, the bus journey takes around 40 minutes whereas it would be around 20 minutes by car.
