UN International Day of Forests falls on Wednesday 21st March and, to help mark the occasion, Fethiye is organising a number of local events. Oceanwide Properties Suleyman Akbay, a firm supporter of environmental projects in the area, was called to a meeting with the head of the forestry department here in Fethiye to discuss the organisation of local activities to help promote the good work of the Orman (forestry department).

Türkiye’yi Temiz Tut Forest Clean Up – Please come and help
During the morning, volunteers are gathering at 9.30am at the junction of Adnan Menderes Blvd and 1418 Sok (first left after Metro in Günlükbaşı). With the help of the local forestry department, they are intending a mass forest clean up between the cemetery and the Metro supermarket in Günlükbaşı. Do head along and support them on their litter picking and clear up activities as the more help the better.
Tree Planting in Yaniklar
The Orman (Forestry Directorate) does some excellent work and plants 500,000 new trees in Fethiye to help sustain the forest. A large expanse of forestry in Yaniklar was destroyed by a forest fire last year. Although some trees have already been planted in the area, they are planning to plant many more during the afternoon of the 21st of March. The department are encouraging anyone locally to attend the ceremony. Full details will be posted and shared on our Facebook and other social media, as soon as arrangements have been announced.
