Paragliding investment in Turkey

A property in Turkey is always a good bet for fans of outdoor living and adventures – and if that is what rocks your boat, then news that there is to be a huge investment in paragliding in Fethiye* will come as welcome news.

Located close to Oludeniz, the Babadag mountain attracts thousands of para gliders every year and the Fethiye Chamber of Commerce has just announced a one million TL investment to improve the roads in the area and to build a new launch site. There are also plans to extend the paragliding season.

Statistics for this year show that there was an increase of 15,000 jumps compared to the same period in 2012 and total jumps now equal 75,000 for the year. The site is popular with para gliders because you can jump from 1,900 metres and land on the beach 45 minutes later. Para gliders can choose to do this solo or holiday markers can experience the same heady thrill by flying in tandem with an experienced pilot.

The new launch site will be built at 1,200 metres. There are three existing sites at 1,800, 1,700 and 1,900 metres.

It is something to bear in mind if you are looking for a property for sale in Fethiye, especially if you plan to let your Turkey property out for holiday makers. Having such a wonderful facility nearby will make your property all the more attractive. Many holiday makers seek out breaks with a difference – there are plenty of people who holiday in Turkey for the sunshine and to see its historic and cultural sights, but many more people seek out thrills and adventures when on holiday and paragliding can be the ultimate knuckle-whitening experience for many.

But what other attractions doe s the Fethiye area hold, particularly for those who favour the sporty and adventurous life? Diving, mountain biking and trekking are all sports which are easy to do in Fethiye.

Mountain biking in the sunshine is a great way to discover the Turkish countryside and there are trails for off-road mountain biking. Those who don’t want to go off-road can simply tour the countryside via the main roads.

If you prefer walking, the area is well signposted and the Lycian way particularly recommended. It starts from the Ovacik village and you can explore the area’s ancient and historical villages.

Windsurfing is very popular in Fethiye, particularly on the Calis beach. Tuition is available if windsurfing is something you have always wanted to try and the area is wonderful for experienced windsurfers because of the large waves that come in from the open sea.

And finally, horse riding is another pastime that you can try whilst in Turkey. Take guided tour around the valleys and pathways of the area and enjoy spectacular views. You can opt for tuition if you are not used to horse riding, whilst the more experienced rider can opt for gallops across the plains.
