It appears that Russian billionaire Andrey Melichenko may love Fethiye having returned on his super yacht “A” just a week or so after his last visit.
One things for sure, you can’t miss Mr Melichenko’s arrival. His super yacht “A” is truly James Bond in style. It’s sleek, white and modern exterior dominates Fethiye’s bay. We have had 007 Daniel Craig spend time here during the filming of Bonds Skyfall locally and we often see mega yachts in the bay whilst their celebrity or business mogul guests are touring the coast, but rarely do we see them return just a couple of weeks later.
This astonishing yacht reportedly cost $300 million. It was built in Keil and designed by Philippe Starck and Martin Francis. The unusual name “A” was originally said to derive as it is the initial letter of both Andrey and his wife Aleksandra’s name. It was later discovered that, in reality, it is named such as Andrey wanted the boat to appear first in shipping registers. Having spotted it moored up near Ece Saray marina this morning, it was a great chance to get up close and have a closer snoop around. “A” is huge. At 119 meters (394ft) in length and 8 stories high, it’s only when you are standing alongside it that you can really appreciate it’s size. There is a lot of information about “A” on Google including a few interesting walk though interior videos on You Tube should you be interested. She was designed to offer guests extreme comfort with just 7 luxury cabin suites sleeping up to 14. There are crew quarters and she runs with a staff of around 42. “A” homes 3 swimming pools, a disco with glass roof under one of the pools, helipad, spa and wellness area, two custom designed “mini-A” style tenders to make for easy shore access and a car port to name just a few of her features.
Andrey Melnichenko is one of the wealthiest men in the world worth an estimated $9 Billion. He made his wealth mainly in the fields of coal and fertilizer, two companies of his you may have heard of are Eurochem and Siberian Coal Energy Company (SUEK). Andrey married Serbian model Aleksandra Nikolic in 2005 in a grand ceremony where superstars like Christina Aguilera and the late Whitney Houston preformed. Between them they own a private Boeing business jet, a tasty little international property portfolio including a $40 million Harewood estate in the UK employing over 20 on a day to day basis, a colossal pad in Cap D’Antibes and a $12 million penthouse in New York. Who knows…maybe Andrey and Alekandra may be considering a sneaky little villa purchase around Fethiye? They obviously seem to enjoy it here and local news reported that during his last visit he paraglided from Babadag in Oludeniz and enjoys Turkish cuisine. Two trips in a month. Maybe we are in for a new neighbour?
