If you are thinking of investing in a property in Fethiye or looking to rent before you buy, here’s some information about Şehit Fethi Bey Parkı – one of Fethiye’s best outside spaces that could be within walking distance of your new property in Turkey.
There have been many changes in the Fethiye area over the last few years but, without question, one of the best additions to the area is this wonderful park which opened in July 2018.
What used to be a large area of wasteland between Fethiye and Çalış is now a stunning space for people to walk, run, cycle, read, relax, enjoy time with their children and families and much more.

The park, and indeed Fethiye itself, is named after a local pilot called Tayyareci Fethi Bey who lost his life when his plane crashed between Damascus and Jerusalem in 1914. His statue was moved from its original spot in the centre of Fethiye to the park prior to opening and is now the focal point for an annual gathering to commemorate the anniversary of his passing.

Unfortunately, the statue took a bit of a beating during strong winds earlier this year and is currently missing its wings, but it is still an imposing structure nonetheless.
Plenty To Do And See
The park is somewhere you can easily spend a few hours. There are a couple of walkways going from one end to the other. One takes you along the water’s edge, the other through the middle of the park.
The imagination of the designers has given us some wonderful sculptures including a depiction of a horse in motion and a boy riding a fish.

There are plenty of benches, curved seats and hammocks to rest upon and maybe even indulge in a quick nap. Or perhaps you would prefer to sit in one of the designated reading areas where you can grab one of the books off the shelf or take your own.
For the more energetic there is a running path as well as a cycle path that winds through the centre although do be careful if you are on a bike as you’ll quite often find whole families wandering across the cycle path!

For the children, there is a play area that would fulfil any child’s fantasy – things to jump on, things to swing on, things to climb on, things to slide down and a multitude of well-known children’s cartoon characters to have their photos taken with.
Older kids, as well as adults, also have the opportunity to play basketball or brush up on their skateboarding skills in the skate park.

Although you aren’t permitted to have a picnic in the park there is a small concession stand where you can buy a light snack or refreshment and close by you’ll find spotlessly clean toilets should you be caught short.
Şehit Fethi Bey Parkı – An Award Winner
All the hard work that went into making this park somewhere everyone can enjoy paid off when it was voted the most successful municipal park at the 2019 Shining Star Awards entertainment and recreation award ceremony held by the Tureks International Trade Fair in Istanbul that year.
If you haven’t already visited Şehit Fethi Bey you are truly missing out so make sure you put it on your to-do list right away. You won’t be disappointed.
