Turkey and its Cultural and Sporting Activities

The idea of retiring or spending any length of time at all in a foreign country always sounds so appealing. But if we’re there for several months or even half a year because we’ve invested in Turkey property, then exactly how do we fill our time considering all our friends and family are back in our homeland? Here at Oceanwide Properties Turkey we’re happy to give you a little bit of background to the typical Turkish lifestyle:

 Sporting Activities in Turkey

Well, the avid golfer is always well catered for of course, Turkey being such a mecca in that line. But it’s not the only sport that’s enjoyed on a regular basis in this most balmy of Mediterranean climates – which offers sporting enjoyment all year round; particularly in the southern resorts. Paragliding is very popular for a start, and can be found at many beach resorts in the area. It’s an exciting sport which we can definitely vouch for here at Oceanwide Properties!

Swimming of course is another favourite sport, thanks to the tempting turquoise waters of the Mediterranean. And talking of the beach, watch out for the odd game of beach volleyball too, which is definitely growing in popularity.

Cycling too is a big past time in Turkey thanks to the weather and the beauty of the countryside – and which is definitely best seen on two wheels rather than four. And on that note hiking too is popular, thanks to the Turkey’s lovely pine-clad mountains.

It may not be another Spain, but this Mediterranean country doesn’t do too badly in terms of football either with teams such as Galatasaray and Fenerbahce tending to garner the majority of support.

Sporting history fans meanwhile may enjoy watching the odd (very odd!) match of oil wrestling.

Cultural Activities in Turkey

This is a land which is, of course, steeped in ancient history, having played host to more than 11 different civilizations over the centuries. Any history and archaeological buff will be in their element in Turkey as many of the ancient relics such as tombs, ancient Roman baths, amphitheatres, Ottoman Minarets and even castles are all still in excellent condition (particularly in the region of Fethiye where the government is actually investing in their restoration).

FethiyeTombsBecause getting around Turkey by rail and bus is so inexpensive it’s a good idea to explore the country and its cities, towns and villages fully to make sure you don’t miss out on any unique cultural traditions.

Istanbul in particular is worth a visit with its myriad of cultures. The city is growing at such an extent that it’s almost difficult to keep up with the new developments if you haven’t been in a number of months. Unhappily Istanbul recently lost out to Tokyo in hosting the Olympic Games 2020 but we’ve no doubt that particular prize will go to the city within the next couple of decades, such is its growing sophistication – both at home on the world stage.

If you’re interested in a property for sale in Fethiye, Kalkan, Istanbul or any other area of Turkey then we’d be more than happy to guide you through the buying process here at Oceanwide Properties Turkey. Please see our website for details.
