Summertime all year in Turkey! Clocks are not turning back in October

An announcement came yesterday by the Turkish government – clocks will stay the same in Turkey and will not turn back an hour on October 30th. We are staying on summertime all year through!

The decree agreed by the cabinet on Wednesday said that the summertime setting will remain in place across the country to make “more use of the daylight”. Prime Minister, Binali Yildirim, said “I abolished the winter-summertime time difference”. He continued, “There will be confusion now. The hours will be the same in winter and summer. You will change, not the hours”.

This decision means that that Turkey will be three hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and two hours ahead of continental Europe during the winter months.

As we experienced in the past when the clock change was delayed due to elections, this is likely to cause confusion. Transfer times and flight times on tickets may be different now that will cause a headache for some tour operators, agents and holiday makers. If you have flights booked soon after the 30th October, do check that times are changed accordingly.
