The Oceanwide Properties Turkey team are very familiar with the fact that Turkish people tend to be blessed with a colourful and joyous festival-type nature. And because of this they, of course, look for any excuse around which to arrange a celebration. This is the reason why Turkey’s best loved festivals have grown into celebrations which are today appreciated and attended by people from all over the world. If you happen to find yourself in Turkey or have recently purchased property in Turkey then you have to get yourself along to some of the following:

music

International Fethiye World Music Festival
Coming up between the 8th and 11th of May, the town of Fethiye will be transformed into a location of music and dance. And, because this is a world music festival, you can expect to see contributions from various cultures and world regions. All music concerts and stages at this event are open to the public and there is no admission fee. The festival seems to get bigger every year and it’s always a great occasion for singing, dancing and getting to know the locals. We highly recommend it!

International Istanbul Movie Festival
The International Istanbul Movie Festival is Turkey’s oldest festival of its ilk and one of the country’s most popular. An annual event, it is arranged by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts, and held every April.  The only problem here is having to choose between the 200 plus films that are showing.

Edirne International Kakava Festival
Kakava is celebrated annually in Turkey’s eastern and western districts. It’s a festival partly based on ancient beliefs – many including fire and dance – although you’ll also find inspiring modern-day activities to engage in too. Having said that, the traditional Kirkpinar oil-wrestling tournament is always one of its biggest crowd pullers.

Alanya International Arts & Culture Festival
No doubt about it, the beach resort city of Alanya in the Antalya region is the perfect setting for a summer arts and culture festival. A prominent Turkish event, the Alanya International Arts & Culture Festival is held in the last week of May. Go along and don’t be surprised to find an eclectic mix of music, arts and culture. The city of Alanya itself is absolutely charming and well worth a look round while you’re there.

International Ataturk Dam Water Sports Festival
A list of Turkey’s favoured festivals would hardly be complete without a mention of this very popular water sports festival. Established a decade ago and aimed specifically at tourists, the Lake Ataturk Dam Festival takes place every year in September. Once there, a variety of water sport activities can be experienced and watched by individuals and families.
