With less than four days to the grand opening of the London 2012 Olympics, the logo for Istanbul’s bid to host the the 2020 Olympics is revealed.
Turkey’s PM, Recep Tayip Erdogan, will be heading to the UK later this week to lend his support to Turkish Olympiads competing this year, and to promote Istanbul as prime candidate city to host the event in 2020.
‘If Turkey wins the bid to host the 2020 Olympic Games, we would be crowning the year 2023, when Turkey will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the republic,’ he said.
Head of the 2020 bid, Hasan Arat, added the logo promoted Turkey’s dream of bringing the Olympics to a stage that spans Europe and Asia.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) chooses its 2020 host on September 7 next year. Alongside Istanbul, Doha, Madrid and Tokyo are also in the running.
